Museo Storico Aeronautico del Friuli Venezia Giulia
Museum | Fiume Veneto | Friuli-Venezia Giulia | Italy
The Museo Storico Aeronautico del Friuli Venezia Giulia in Fiume Veneto is the only museum in the region dedicated to the history of civil and military aviation. It was founded by Giovanni Follador, a former pilot and aviation pioneer, and houses an impressive collection of aircraft, uniforms, documents, and other aviation artifacts.
Collections and exhibitions:
Aircraft: Outstanding exhibits include a Macchi 308, an aircraft from the Military Flight School, a Hawker Hunter fighter aircraft, a Fiat G 91, and various remote-controlled spy vehicles.
Propellers: The collection includes over 70 historical propellers, including a wooden propeller that once belonged to the first Italian aerobatic team.
Documents and uniforms: Hundreds of uniforms, magazines, historical documents, and photographs provide a comprehensive insight into aviation history.
Military equipment: The exhibition also includes military equipment such as rockets, bombs, and a torpedo.
Special features:
A unique exhibit is the so-called "flying bombs" or rocket bombs, which were produced in the former bomb factory of Fiume Veneto. These bombs were developed under the direction of Baron Wernher von Braun, the creator of the V2 rocket.
Future outlook:
The museum plans to house its extensive collection in a new, larger building under the name "Museo storico delle armi civili e militari antiche e moderne".
The Museo Storico Aeronautico del Friuli Venezia Giulia offers visitors a deep insight into the history of aviation and is a significant cultural heritage of the region.
